For most pregnant women, even if you already have a child, the labor and birth process can be both overwhelming and joyful. Many women and their partners choose to attend childbirth classes to gather information and lessen their anxiety.

Lamaze® International uses a contemporary curriculum that supports birth as normal, natural, and healthy, and empowers expectant women and their partners to make informed decisions.

Our childbirth educator

Priyanka Idiculla – Co Founder and Director of Birthvillage The Natural Birthing Center.

Priyanka Idicula is a certified professional midwife (U.S.A.) and Lamaze certified childbirth educator, trained extensively in prenatal and postnatal care and child birth education from the United States. She is currently the director of Birth Village, The Natural Birthing Centre in Cochin, Kerala and is the managing trustee for Birth for Change (NGO). She has been teaching Lamaze certified classes for close to a decade and would be one of the oldest educators in India. She also bears the distinction of being the First Asian to win a dual scholarship from Lamaze International. She believes that birth is a normal physiological process and that women are strong and powerful. She encourages women to learn about their options and to be active participants in decision-making for themselves and their babies. A member of Lamaze International and Birth India, she strongly believes that women birth best in a place in which they feel safe, and that women should get to decide what “safe” looks like. Priyanka has also penned a weekly column under the title of “Happy Mom” in India’s largest vernacular daily: MalayalaManorama for three years. She strongly advocates for evidence based maternity care and works for rights for women who are from the underprivileged sections of society. She has also obtained a Masters degree in Microbiology and has long stints in organizations such as Johnson and Johnson, Transasia Biomedical etc. She has presented various papers and has been the face of India at international midwifery conferences. She is also one of the early pioneers for water birth in India

Birth for change in partnership with dil se also runs Tejus home a safe shelter for pregnant teens currently one of its kind in India.

She is mother to eleven year old Aryan. Married to Zameer, Business Head Muzik 247. If she had more than 24 hours on hand she would probably bury herself in some good novel.


The 2,000 sq ft Natural Birthing Centre is south India’s first and India’s second Birth Village.

With a birthing room, water birth facility and birth stools, Priyanka and team have initiated a silent revolution in childbirth. At the centre there is professionally-trained midwives from the US and Canada. They along with Priyanka assist expectant parents to get involved and enjoy a normal pregnancy and childbirth, in a safe, personalised and family-centred approach.
